Some time ago and I was tasked with selecting a restaurant for lunch with friends. I went online to find somewhere that was tasty and offered yummy gluten free options for me. The list that came up for gluten free restaurants here in Jacksonville was enormous. My initial response was great excitement. Then as I explored the restaurants that appeared and their menus, reality set in. It seems as though any place that offers a salad is considered being “gluten free”. That is no a deception as the ingredients in most veggie salads are gluten free. If that salad comes with croutons, you ask for them not to be included. However, when I think of an eating establishment listed as “gluten free”, I expect that they are offering entrees and desserts that are gluten free not just a salad. Imagine fast food places in that listing of gluten free because they offer a salad and nothing else. That doesn’t seem right to me! So if you are the one looking for a new gluten free restaurant and desire a gluten free entree, allow yourself extra time in your search.
